Funeral Services will be 1:30pm Wednesday at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Newtonburg. The Rev. Keith A. Haberkorn will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
Mr. Schwalbe was born Nov. 22, 1894, in the Township of Eaton, Manitowoc, County, son of the late August and Anna Damm Schwalbe. He grew up and was educated at Eaton, moving to Manitowoc Rapids in 1917. Mr. Schwalbe was a dairy and poultry farmer all his life, retiring in 1960. He married Ella Luebke, Nov. 23, 1916, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Town of Liberty. He was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Newtonburg, former member of the church council and also a member of Valders Senior Citizens.
Survivors include his wife, Ella; a son and daughter-in-law, Milton and Sylvia Schwalbe of rural Manitowoc; a daughter and son-in-law, Alice and Elroy Nass of rural Manitowoc; a brother-in-law, Mark Berge of Valders; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Theo (Elsa) Schwalbe of Valders, nine grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Gladys Johnson in 1951, two brothers and four sisters.
Friends may call at Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home, Manitowoc from 5pm to 9pm Tuesday and until 11am Wednesday, and then at the church from noon until the time of services.
