Bertha Mae Strother Baker Dobbins. A funeral service was held Nov. 3, 2015 at McAdams Mortuary in Paoli, IN for Bertha Mae (Strother) Baker Dobbins, 93, who died Oct. 30 at Paoli Health and Living Community. Born July 15, 1922 in Marengo, Crawford County, IN, Bertha Mae was the daughter of Thomas and Georgia Alice (Blevins) Strother. Her siblings were Howard Jefferson, Charles Curtis, Justus Thomas, Lee Everett, Elmer Leo, Mary Ellen, Luther Herman, and Elma Lorene, along with a half-sister, Fellma Jane Strother. Bertha married Robert Glenn Baker from Orangeville, IN on November 2, 1940. He preceded her in death on August 24, 1985. Glenn and Bertha had 3 children - Judith Ann, Larry Robert, and Danny Thomas Baker, Sr. Bertha retired as an Upholsterer for the Paoli Chair Company after 26 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Paoli. She was also the past President of the Paoli Senior Citizens Center and was instrumental in the fundraising for their new building. On September 2, 1989, Bertha wed Douglas Lee Dobbins, Sr. from Eddyville, KY. They lived in Paoli and wintered in Matlacha, FL. Doug passed away on May 22, 1999. Along with two husbands, Bertha was preceded in death by her parents, a grand-daughter, Barbara Martin; son-in-law, Dale Kendall; a sister, Mary Ellen Sherman; and six brothers, Howard, Charlie, Justus (Jet), Everett, Leo and Luther Strother. Bertha's survivors include a daughter, Judith Kendall of Paoli; two sons, Larry Robert (Bob) Baker (wife Chiquita) of Ft. Myers, FL, and Danny Baker, Sr. of Clarksville, TN; 9 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 9 great, great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lorene Beaty (husband Dwight, Sr.) of Kingsford Heights, IN. Also surviving is Albert Jones (98) of Paoli, who faithfully visited every evening, sharing desert, a couple of TV programs, a good game of cards, and pleasant conversation. Officiating the service were Brothers Ron McClintock and Bill Cody. Burial was at the Paoli Community Cemetery, sharing the headstone of her first husband, Glenn BAKER.
