Bobby was born January 9, 1944 in Paoli, Orange County, Indiana, to Robert Glenn and Bertha Mae (Strother) Baker of Paoli, growing up in Abydel.

On September 4, 1965, he married high school sweetheart Chiquita (Heckler) of French Lick, Indiana, at the Ames Chapel United Methodist Church, just across the road from where he grew up. Rev. Herb Mathers did the honors. It was at the beginning of his senior year at Oakland City College.

He pursued a career with Sears, Roebuck in Indiana and Montgomery Ward in Michigan as a Credit Manager for 10 years. He joined Prudential Insurance Co. after the downsizing of the retail stores.

After 13 years of marriage they divorced in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Seven years later, on June 28, 1986, Bobby and Chiquita remarried at the Ames Chapel United Methodist Church at Abydel by Rev. Austin. In attendance were their three children, Christine Susan, Nathan Eric, and Carla Michele, along with the immediate families.

Upon their remarriage came the decision to move to Florida to be near Chiquita's brother, Monty. Bobby then focused the remainder of his life as an extremely well liked and valued insurance agent for Mutual of Omaha, and as a mentor and trainer for many entering the portals.

Bobby and Chiquita loved their vacations out West, taking tons of photographs, riding the rapids, horseback riding, train rides, venturing on every off-trail road they could find, and pursuing every wild animal's picture, especially the buffalo, moose and elk. Throughout the USA, they pursued their love of gemstone mining, especially in the Smokey Mtns. In Alaska, they were filled by the blue ice and whale tours, and in Canada by their evening "bear hunting" rides, watching for the Grizzlies and their cubs munching on roadside dandelions. They loved the peaceful mountains and babbling brooks everywhere they went.

But nothing surpassed Bobby's love of sports, especially basketball. Bobby and Chiquita made it a point to be active with all seven of their wonderful grandchildren growing up. Bobby was the athletes' mentor, always there cheering them on, ready to give pointers. Whether they were in a tutu, pompoms, skates, playing an instrument, talent or drama, in mind/skills competitions, swinging a bat, hurling a discus, or throwing/kicking a ball, the Bakers were there. They delighted in being grandparents and especially great-grandparents.

Grandchildren are Mathew Shay and Logan Shanobe Nelson, Cloe Jade Holley, Lila Grace and Cyrus Augustus Baker, and Wesley Richard and Nicolas Wyatt Viola. Presently, great--grandchildren include Lucas Isaiah and Isabella Rae Nelson.
