MARY ELLEN (STROTHER) STEWART SHERMAN, b. July 7, 1934 - d. June 15, 2011.

Mary Ellen is BURIED UNDER THE NAME OF STEWART and is placed next to her first love and beloved husband, JOE.

She was born July 7th, 1934, as the 7th of 9 children blessed to Thomas and Georgia (Blevins) Strother in English, IN. Mary prided the family with being the first to graduate high school.

She MARRIED her sweetheart, JOSEPH CLARENCE STEWART, III, on August 2, 1952 in Michigan City, IN. They were always the happiest of couples, working hard, and raising a family of three girls and one little boy, Ramona, Carolyn, Connie and Joey, IV. At their happy home in Hamlet, they extended their love of family to foster a son, Jimmy Hunsche. Mary and her family were very active in their First Baptist Church of Kingsbury. She was a fine Christian lady, setting the tone for how she wanted her children to live.
In 1976, Mary's beloved Joe developed cancer and passed away on January 17th.

After 18 devoted years, Mary retired from the Westville Correctional Center, where she had met Donald Ray Sherman. MARY MARRIED DON SHERMAN on December 29th, 1990. Unfortunately, Don passed away in January of 1994.

Mary became a patient for little over a week at the Golden Living Center (Countryside) in La Porte as a result of a very bad fall in the home. She also suffered from severe heart problems. On June 15th, 2011 and at age 76, Mary quietly passed away and joined her beloved Joe.

Mary was predeceased by her parents, Tom and Georgia Strother of Paoli, IN, all six brothers, Howard, Charlie, Jet, Everett, Leo, and Luther, and one great-grandson, Lane Easley.

She is survived by five children - Ramona (Larry) Warg, Carolyn (Conan) Brown, Connie (D.J.) Caudill, Joseph C. Stewart, IV (Becky) and James Hunsche; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, along with her two sisters - Bertha Baker Dobbins (twice widowed) of Paoli, IN and Lorene (Dwight) Beaty of Kingsford Heights, IN.

Arrangements: LaPorte Haverstock Funeral, Date: June 18th, 2011, Service: First Baptist of Kingsbury, Officiated By: The Rev. Tim Williams, Interment: Kingsbury Cemetery.
Excerpted from Herald-Argus publ., LaPorte, June 17th, 2011.

Mary loved to visit her nephew, Bobby Baker, in Florida, enjoying the beaches, scouring the mounds for pretty little shells and sharks' teeth, spending hours cleaning to take back home to all the kids. She liked to fish, spend close time with the grandkids, hit the sales, and always had something crafty in her hands to work on. She loved getting together for fish fries and playing canasta with friends and family. Mary was forever thoughtful and called Bobby on his every birthday. (As a teenager, she had lugged him around on her hip since the day he was born.) She was close to her kids, and especially her sisters and brothers and their families. Mary was devoted, faithful, always there. We all miss her very much! (Chiquita)
