Border Plains Residents Die
Mrs. Andrews and Mrs. Hoover Die Within Few Hours Last Week
A mother, Mrs. Elwood Andrews, and daughters, Mrs. Leroy Hoover, both of them long-time and favorably known residents near Border Plains, died within a few hours of each other last week. Mrs. Hoover died at her home near Duncombe the morning of September 10, after an illness of but two days. Mrs. Andrews died following an operation in the Hampton hospital at 2:40 o'clock in the morning of September 11.
Burial services for Mrs. Hoover were held last Thursday afternoon, September 12, at the Methodist church in Evanston, with Rev. L. C. Heck, pastor of the United Brethren church of Lehigh officiating.
Mrs. Hoover had apparently been in good health, and went out driving with her husband Sunday, to be taken ill Sunday evening.
Services for Mrs. Andrews were held at the Methodist church in Evanston Friday afternoon, September 13, with Rev. L. C. Heck officiating. Interment was in the Border Plains cemetery.
Mrs. Andrews, nee Mary Ann Foust, was born in Cherokee county, Sept. 29, 1866. She was married to Elwood Andrews on Dec. 29, 1884. To this union were born six children, two of whom passed away in infancy, and one, Mrs. Lee Hoover, dying the day before her mother. The others survive her.
Mrs. Andrews spent most of her life in Webster County, where her kindly and helpful ways made her a host of friends. She was a member of the Evanston Methodist church.
She is survived by her husband, three children, Mrs. Maggie Ann Benton, Mrs. Alice Montgomery, and James Benjamin Andrews, all of Duncombe and her many friends.
Amanda Andrews Hoover was born in Cherokee county, August 27, 1888. She moved to Webster County with her parents when a small child and here she grew to womanhood. She was married to Leroy Hoover, Dec. 17, 1907. To this union were born seven children, all of whom survive their mother.
Mrs. Hoover, as well as her mother, was known as a woman of fine character.
Those who survive her are her husband, her children, four daughters, Mrs. Ermal Wertz, of this vicinity, and Martha, Geneva and Marcella Hoover, all at home; three sons, Earl, Merlin and Bivern, all of them at home; her father, Elwood Andrews; one brother, James Benjamin Andrews of Duncombe, two sisters, Mrs. Maggie Benton and Mrs. Alice Montgomery, of Duncombe.
