"Jo" was born in Upper Fairmount, Maryland, and graduated from Washington High School in 1943. She attended Easton Memorial Hospital, where she graduated, and received a certificate from the Maryland State Board of Examiners of Nurses as a Registered Nurse on the 4th of July, 1947 (her 21st birthday). She later received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Maryland on the 4th of June, 1966. She then later received a Professional Graduate Degree of Master of Public Health from the University of North Carolina on the 26th of August, 1969. Josephine never married. She was very dedicated to her family, having spent a lot of time and effort caring for her mother during her latter years, and also, she and her sister Ruth helped immensely while their sister Lily was ill with lung cancer. She also helped to care for, and comfort her sisters Mary and Elizabeth during their last days as well. Jo lived for many years in Takoma Park, Maryland. She always worked hard around the house, learning to do many things by necessity. In her leisure time, Jo enjoyed fishing, and wood-carving, and always seemed to enjoy her cats. Buried between her parents, and brother Ralph.
