Daughter of Thomas Dodson & Frances Ann (Blackerby) Dodson. The birth date given on her death certificate (31 Jul 1862) is in slight conflict with the date recorded in the Northumberland Co. birth records (25 Jul 1862). Her gravestone has her name as "Laura J. Howeth". Her son, Charles W. Howeth, Jr. arranged it this way. This apparently was because her 2nd marriage, to James H. Daugherty (after she had become a widow) was frowned upon, since he had been previously married, but widowed for about 17 years. His first wife died in 1910, and he and Laura weren't married until 1927. So Mr. Daugherty would have been 73, and Laura 65. It is interesting to note that Laura was born during the Civil War, and her father Thomas at that time was fighting for the Confederacy. This no doubt accounts for her middle name "Jackson", being after the Southern general, Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson.
