DEATH OF D. E. HOGAN
Dennis E. Hogan whose death was briefly noted in these columns last week, was born in Covington, Kentucky on July 9th, 1862. He died in Faribault on Sunday, October 21st at about ten o'clock in this forenoon. Death was due to heart failure from over exertion from cranking a car. His age was 69 years, 3 months and 12 days.
When about ten years of age, he came to Minnesota with his parents who settled on a farm near Janesville. This place for the most part since that early day has been his home although for some years he resided in St. Paul and more recently in Faribault.
Mr. Hogan was a man widely known in the county and the state. For many years he was engaged in the stock business and he was most successful in that business. He was a man who had the confidence and respect of all who knew him. His reputation was without reproach. A man of sincere convictions he always maintained a high standard as to civic life, the home, the community, the public in general.
On Saturday previous to his death he was in Janesville where he greeted his many friends in his usual spirit of cordiality. The writer met him little thinking that it would fall to his lot to speak so soon of his career and character and the good qualities of heart and mind that he possessed in company with Mrs. Hogan and Mrs. John Eustice he returned to Faribault that Friday afternoon.
On October 26th, 1885 he was married to Miss Mary Eustice. Six children were born to them three of who died in infancy. The living are Miss Mary of St. Paul, Miss Mildred, who is a teacher in Porto Rico and Dr. D. E. Hogan, of Faribault. He is also survived by his wife and three brothers, Jerry J., John and Michael, of Janesville.
The funeral was conducted on Tuesday morning at the church of the Immaculate Conception, Faribault. The remains were brought to Janesville for interment in the Catholic cemetery.
We take this opportunity to express our sincere sympathy and thus to reflect the sympathy of the many friends and the public generally to the bereaved wife and children.
Relatives from out of town to attend the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Hogan and son Leon, John Hogan, Mrs. Chas. Burke, Mrs. McCune, Mrs. Byerantz, George Eustice of Minneapolis, Mr. William Naughton, Mrs. Terrance Naughton, of St. Paul, Mrs. Nellie Reimers, Joseph Brick, of Marshalltown, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. John Donovan and daughter, Gertrude, Mr. and Mrs. John Callahan, Mr. and Mrs. Lyman West, Mrs. Thomas McHugo of Waseca, and William Eustice and family, of Mankato.
