George C. Utter of Cory, IN, departed this life May 30, 1899, at his home near Cory, after a protracted illness from February 1, 1899, when he was stricken with paralysis of the right side, which threatened immediate death, but by constant care and treatment he slightly recovered. But while in quietude alone in an out house, the fell destroyer came and again laid his paralyzing hand upon him, prostrating his manly form. His dutiful wife soon found him, and all efforts were made to stay the hand of death, but human efforts, as they often do, failed, and while family and friends gathered around his prostrate form, his spirit, guided by angelic hosts left the body of clay and winged its way to him who doeth all things well.
George Carlton Utter was born on March 25, 1850 at Newport, IN. He was joined in wedlock to Mary I. Leatherman, January 12, 1873. To this union was born 5 children - 2 boys and 3 daughters. One daughter died at the tender age of 37 days. He joined the Christian Church at Prairie Chapel in Douglas County, IL, and has lived a consistent Christian life. About 10 years ago, he joined the Odd Fellows Lodge at Dana. He leaves a wife and 4 children, one brother, and one sister. His funeral was preached by Rev. Jesse Wilson. He was interred in the Oak Hill Cemetery by the Odd Fellows.
