James E. "Hackdriver" Hackwith, 74, of Rock Island, died Nov. 12, 1996, in Genesis East Medical Center, Davenport, Iowa.
Graveside services will be Friday in National Cemetery, Rock Island. There will be no visitation. Knox-Larson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
He was born March 7, 1922, in Toulon, the son of Horace G. and Louella J. Moe Hackwith. He married Phyllis Fredell Jan. 30, 1942, in Princeville.
She survives as wells as four daughters, Nancee (Larry) Woodley of Peoria, Kay Brigel of Bluegrass, Iowa, Linda (Jim) Hanks of Conyers Ga., and Ona (Bill) Talbot of Davenport, Iowa, a son, Michael J. Hackwith of Oshkoch, Wis., nineteen grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, three sisters and five brothers. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, and a brother.
Mr. Hackwith served in the US Army during World War II as a private first class in the South Pacific.
