He was born April 4, 1924, in Toulon, Ill., the son of Horace and Luella (Mock) Hackwith. He married Emma Reine on July 29, 1945, in Murray, Neb. She survives, as do three sons, Bob (Gail) Hackwith of Lincoln, Neb., Harley Hackwith of Plattsmouth and Monte (Teresa) Hackwith of Bellevue, Neb.; three daughters, Mrs. Mark (Kathy) Groth of Denver, Mrs. Robert (Randeen) VanDyne of Plattsmouth and Holly Hackwith of Omaha; six grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Dick (Ruth) Sater of Sheffield, Ill., Mrs. Bill (Mary) McCloud of Buda, Ill., and Flora Asplund of Moline, Ill.; and three brothers, Don (Bridgette) Hackwith of Great Falls, Mont., Dean (Cynthia) Hackwith of Shreveport, La., and Dudley Hackwith of Kewanee, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Betty Lou Hackwith, Carol Wirth and June Boyd, and three brothers, Charles, James and Phillip Hackwith.
He was born, raised and educated in Toulon. He was a pilot with the Army Air Corps in the European Theater during World War II. He and his wife lived in Arizona, Louisiana, Ohio, New York, and Iowa before settling in Nebraska in 1961.
He was national sale director for ConAgra Grain from 1966 to 1986.
