MRS. HILL, HEAD OF EMPLOYMENT SOCIETY, DIES

Prominent Socially and Active Worker in Behalf of Aged Women.

Mrs. Fannie Burton Hill, 54, prominent in social circles of Syracuse and president of the Employment society at 252 East Onondaga street, died Thursday afternoon of pneumonia after an illness of six days.
Mrs. Hill contracted a cold while directing the sewing by aged women at the employment store last Friday. Saturday she was confined to her bed and her condition quickly became worse, pneumonia developing.
Mrs. Hill was the widow of Joseph M. Hill, former contractor and Mystique Krewe director. He died in 1911.
Mrs. Hill had been prominent in several Syracuse organizations.
She was a leading worker in the Employment society formed for the benefit of aged women in straitened circumstances. On Fridays of each week old women gathered at the East Onondaga street store to visit and sew. The work they did on this day was sold during the week. The money derived from the sewing went to the old women to aid in their support.
During the war, Mrs. Hill stayed in New York city, where she took an active part in Red Cross work. In Syracuse she was a member of Harmony circle and was a former member of the Onondaga Golf and Country club. She was an active member of Circle A of Park Presbyterian church.
She had lived in this city since 1866. When a year old she came here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John H. Childs, from Philadelphia, Pa., where she was born.
She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Amelia Childs, one son, John P. Hill, and three sisters, Mrs. Henry P. Warner and Mrs. Georgene C. Hawe of this city and Mrs. H. S. Boha (sic) of Sioux City, Ia.
The funeral will take place at the family home, 301 Slocum avenue, Monday at 3 P.M. Friends may call in the morning. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery.
