The people of Mayville generally and her many friends and relatives here and elsewhere in particular where deeply grieved to hear of the death of Miss Clara Paustian Saturday afternoon shortly after two o'clock. Her death, which occurred unexpectedly at her home in which she justly took so much pride, was due to heart failure. Only a short time before her death she had been shopping in the city. Returning home she had removed her wraps and sat down to unpack her market basket, when her sister Anna noticed something was wrong with her. She carried her into an adjoining room and placed her on a couch, then sent for a physician: before his arrival, however, life had flown.

Miss Clara Paustian was born in this city on October 27, 1871, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ferdinand Paustian, early settlers of this city. At the age of 17 years she graduated from the local high school and for one term taught at the Ledge school, south-west of this city. After her graduation from the Oshkosh Normal school she was engaged as instructor at the Sheboygan public schools and was so successful in her work that she held the position at that school continually for 23 years, until she was taken ill with typhoid fever which forced her to give up her beloved work. Several years later she assisted her brother-in-law, Oscar Naber , at the time postmaster at the local post office, and for the past six years she has been the efficient and ever accommodating and friendly clerk at the A. J. Koepsell drug store.

Miss Paustian is survived by a brother, Albert, at Brillion, and three sisters, Martha, Mrs. Oswald Liebscher at Thiensville; Paula, Mrs. Oscar Naber of this city, and Miss Anna at home; also two nieces and six nephews. Two sisters and one brother died in infancy. Her mother preceded her in death 11 years ago and her father, four years ago.

In the death of Miss Paustian her relatives lose a gentle and sympathetic sister and it can truthfully be said of her that she was a true friend, ever ready to sympathize in trouble or sorrow and always having a pleasant word for everyone.

The funeral, which was largely attended, was held Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock from the late home. The six nephews acted as pallbearers. Interment was made in Graceland cemetery. John A. Thiel eulogized the deceased for her many good traits and her beautiful and noble character.

The Damenchor and Mrs. F. Putz sang beautiful songs at the late home while the mixed chorus and the Mayville Maennerchor sang fitting songs at the graveside.

The host of friends extends sincere sympathy to those who mourn the loss of a devoted and loving sister.
