Francinah Adams Peters was the daughter of James and Abigail Adams of Scotland, later of New Jersey, then of Virginia. Francinah traveled from Loudoun County, Virginia to Hampshire County, (West) Virginia to Pickaway/Fairfield County, Ohio in the early 1800s with her husband Tunis Peters and numerous children and grandchildren.

I have located Francinah's father James Adams in Loudoun Co., Virginia in early tax records by 1777, and Tunis and wife Francinah have a land purchase record in Loudoun Co. in 1777. Although some records claim that Francinah was born in Romney, Hampshire Co., West Virginia, the time and geographic location conflict. In the 1880 census which lists parents' birthplaces, two of Francinah's sons were still living; Jonathan claimed both his parents were born in New Jersey and Absolom said his father was born in Virginia and his mother in New Jersey. So, lacking further documentation, it is most likely that Francinah was born in New Jersey.

[Thanks to contributor Jeffrey Gorball for the suggestion concerning Francinah's birthplace!]
