Gershom Moore Peters, a son of Tunis and Francinah Adams Peters, was born 28 Oct 1787 in Hampshire Co., Virginia (now West Virginia). He died 6 Apr 1868 in Ohio. Gershom married first Susan Glaze (no date located) and had two sons: Milton and Gershom M. (The child Gershom may have died in infancy). After Susan's death, Gershom married a young widow, Miranda Eaton Berry. Gershom and Miranda had 7 children: Philena, Mary Alma, Alvin, Orrin, Gershom Moore Jr., Theron and Eaton. Miranda died 25 Oct 1852; after her death Gershom married Sarah Sain.

Was a surveyor who surveyed the present site of Columbus, Ohio, while it was still a dense forest; and part of the city now occupies his old farm, as does the cemetery which received its name, Greenlawn, from his wife.
