1999 - The 2nd Photo to the left, could be Elias's plot, he was said to have been buried behind the Tapp Markers, Left to Right behind the Tapp's, are what appears to be 5 burial sites, I guess, Elias may be the 3rd from the left, two of the 5 plots, have field stones layed at the heads. I would figure their children who died before them, their stones have sunken into the forest floor, the two that remain visible, could be Elias and Anne, as they were buried many years after their young children died. I have discolored the area a bit, in the photo, to bring out this plot. SL or LL could be the 1st plot buried in 1847, left most, to Elias & Anne. Elias's family is buried behind the Tapp Plot, the tall marker you see in the photo, this visible Tapp marker is one of five, in the Tapp plot.

who was caring for Elias, who was totally blind, handled the estate and divided

it up evenly for all the living Children and Heirs of Elias White. This

**NOTE - Stewart Title Company donated these Historic records to the following:

Update on Stewart Title: (Nov 19, 2013)

"They no longer have the old Deed records of Bowie County, when they moved they donated the old records to the Texarkana Museum, I called the Museum, and they currently (2013) are in the process of organizing these documents, and could take many months before they are sorted out. Is good to know they are in good hands.**

==============================================

1850 - 1870 - Census in Texas:

Elias is on the 1850, 1860 and 1870 census in Bowie Co TX.

He is also listed on the 1850 and 1860 Agricultural Census, in Bowie Co TX.

==============================================

CREED CEMETERY ON ELIAS'S FORMER LANDS:

The land that the Creed cemetery is located, was on Elias's former lands. Named after Patrick Creed "nicknamed 'THE IRISHMAN', by the locals, he was the 2nd husband of Elias's daughter, Susan White Harlan Creed. She inherited some of Elias's lands, after his death in 1873, which was, divided among the living children and heirs of Elias.

There are plenty of online Creed Cemetery list, all but a couple of the internment's are related to Elias's lineage.

==============================================

THE JOURNEY WEST:

1846 - Elias's original destination, in 1846, as family lore has it, was Houston County Texas, to meet up with his older brother, Stephen White, who had arrived, in that county in January of 1836, from Lowndes County Alabama.

It is said Elias's party, stopped in Bowie County to grow a crop of food, before completing the journey, but liked the area so much, they decided to stay in Bowie County Texas.

Bowie County probably reminded Elias of Union Co SC, in its early days before being over run with settlers. The Pine Forest, plenty of game for hunting and bodies of water for fishing, of course, plenty of fertile land for cotton growing, as the lands of his birth, had long passed their peak, and the cotton industry, in Union County SC, had for sometime, been on decline, this may have inspired his journey west.

BOWIE COUNTY TEXAS SURVIVING DEED TRANSACTIONS:

Surviving Deed transaction of Elias's in Bowie Co TX; (after court house fire):

1. JC Moore to Elias White Deed Bk. C, page 94, 1847, 682 acres, 1847.

2. JS & BGHerring to Elias White Deed Bk C, P.145, no date, 125 Acres block #4.

3. JS & Eliza Herring to Elias White DeedBk A, Pg 117, Yr 1851, 1000 acres.

We know Elias had more land, but many deeds were lost in the fire... A once

Title Company, Stewart Title, had records from re-filings, and recorded

many Bowie Co Deed records, I believe these records are with the

Texarkana Museum Archives , in Texarkana Bowie Co TX. Before they

were transferred I was able to see and copy many of the Records of our old families.

**Notes about above deeds:

These above deeds, were found at Stewart Title Company in Texarkana Texas, These were copies from the originals before the fire destroyed the Bowie County Court House in 1879, thus are the only records of detail of Elias White's Land transactions.

Susan Creed, of course, is Elias's daughter, he was living with her the last

years of his life, totally blind, and some of his property sales to Susan was a way

of showing his appreciation for the care she was providing to him and the family.

Deed #1 - They spelled Elias as Ellis. Note also, that Jeremiah Bobo,

is on this deed, he was the son-in-law of Elias, who married his daughters,

1st Sarah Ann White Bobo, 2nd Hester White Bobo.

SON OF:

Elias is the son of Robert Sr & Mildred "Milly" [Whitehead] White, of Union County South Carolina, arriving there in 1788. Elias was blind the last few years of his life. He lived with and was cared for, by his daughter, Susan.

==============================================

MARRIED ANNE:

Elias married Anne Gibbs, abt 1814, if you take into account, his 3 unknown children, or abt 1820, if you discount the 3 unknown children, that appeared on the 1830 census. Elias would have been about 17 years old, and Anne, 15 or 16 years old, young marriages were common, in those days, and probably lived on lands, of parents or siblings, as they do not appear on the 1820 census, as husband/wife, in Union Co SC.

==============================================

Elias and Anne had the following children:

ELIAS WAS BLIND LAST FEW YEARS OF HIS LIFE:

Elias was on every tax list until his death, 1873. Susan White Creed,

who was caring for Elias, who was totally blind, handled the estate and divided

it up evenly for all the living Children and Heirs of Elias White. This

Estate Partition source Vol. M, page 261, of Deed records , Bowie Co TX.

(reference is made to a plat, but the same does not appear of record)

"We assign the homestead to Susan Creed, and the reason for said distribution of Elias White estate, is that he in his natural lifetime had expressed a desire that his lands should be divided amongst his heirs in the manner specified above."

1850 - 1870 - Census in Texas:

Elias is on the 1850, 1860 and 1870 census in Bowie Co TX.

He is also listed on the 1850 and 1860 Agricultural Census, in Bowie Co TX.

==============================================

==============================================
