Eva Wells was born on August 30, 1873 to James E. Ward and Sarah Jane Benton Ward in Henry County, Missouri. She married John Oliver Wells also of Henry County in 1895. In April of 1910, she, her husband, and children relocated to Eaton, Weld County, Colorado.

Eva and John Wells were the parents of:

Mabel H. Wells McGinniss (1895 - 1990 )
Paul E. Wells (1897 - )
Howard C. Wells (1900 - 1991)
Marie Wells Brandenberg (1904 - )
Thelma Wells Wellman Roth (1907 - 1990)

Her husband, John Oliver Wells, died on February 17, 1941 at their home in Eaton. In 1943, she moved to Greeley, Colorado to be near her children. There she joined the Baptist Church and remained socially active in her community, as well as, with her family.

On August 30, 1973 she celebrated her 100th birthday with a party in Greeley, Colorado. Between 40 and 50 friends and relatives attended the celebration from at least six different states. The oldest person present was her 94 year old niece, Mrs. Minnie Humbrock. The youngest person present was a one-year-old great-great-granddaughter from Texas, who had never seen her great-great-grandmother.

She received congratulations from President Richard Nixon and Vice President Spiro Agnew on her 100th birthday. In addition, the Governors of Colorado and Nebraska sent their congatulations. She lived to be 104 years old.

Note: Eva came from a line that has several centenarians. Her sister, Etta Ward Cook (1860 - 1862) lived to be 102 years old. Her mother's sister, Angeline "Angie" Benton Rood also lived to be 102 years old. In addition, her second cousins, Calvin David Benton and his sister, Mary J. Benton Pemberton (1910 - 2011) lived to be over 100 years old.
