Clinton, MO - James E. Ward, a highly respected citizen of this county, died January 30, 1899, with grip, bronchitis and congestion of the brain. He was born in Ireland April 12, 1835; came to America when between 9 and 10, living in N.Y. and N. J. for a few years, then moving westward into Indiana and Illinois. He married Sarah Jane Benton May 20, 1857 to which union 11 children were born, six of whom still survive him. They lived in Illinois until after the close of the Rebellion, moving to Missouri in the fall of 1866, where he has lived on the same place for 33 years. Remains laid to rest in Bethlehem Cemetery.
