He was the son of the late General Byrd and the late Hattie Byrd, and was also preceded in death by three brothers, Wiley Byrd, Jimmy Byrd, and Maynard Byrd; and one infant sister. Mr. Byrd served in the Air Force, and was a veteran of the Korean War and Vietnam War. He was a member of Trinity Baptist church.
He is survived by his wife, Rosalee Byrd; three daughters, Debra Wibber of Elyria, O., Leona Rutherford of Vermilion, O and Julie Pruchinsky of Collins, O.; one son, Leon Byrd, Jr. of Elgin; four sisters, Ruth Simpson of Somerset, Ky.; Faye Hensley of Knoxville, Joyce Barley of Elgin, and Beulah Newport of Lewisburg, O.; two brothers, Kenneth Byrd of Germany and Earl Moore of Helenwood.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, November 17, at 7 p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church, with Rev. Phillip Kidd and Rev. Delbert Terry officiating. Burial was held on Monday, November 18, at 11 a.m. in the Concord Cemetery. FOUR OAKS FUNERAL HOME of Huntsville was in charge of the arrangements.
