Virginia Agnes Ames, 84, of Rt. 3, Rensselaer, died Monday, Aug. 27 at 6:15 a.m.
She died at the Jasper County Hospital after being in failing health five years. She was a lifelong resident of Jasper County.
Born June 3, 1900 in Newton Township of Jasper County, she was the daughter of Robert Joseph and Hattie (Huffty) Yeoman. She attended Mt. Ayr public schools.
She married Herman W. Ames Nov. 24, 1920 in Rensselaer; he died June 25, 1973. She was a homemaker and cook, working for school systems and the Curtis Creek Country Club. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Rensselaer and the Order of the Eastern Star, chapter 41.
She is survived by two children, H. DeVere Ames, and Richard D. Ames, both of Rensselaer. Two sisters, Esther Mauck, of Fair Oaks, and Edna Levandowski, of Rensselaer, also survive. Twelve grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren also survive. Three sons, two brothers and one sister preceded her in death.
Friends may call at the Jackson Funeral Chapel after 2 p.m. Tuesday. The funeral will be at Jackson's on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. Interment will be at Memory Gardens, Rensselaer.
