Grace Freeland Bogardus was the youngest daughter of Peter Bogardus and Mary Mellen Freeland Bogardus. She was born a few months after the death of her father, and she married Major Charles Henry Stott at Christ Episcopal Church at Hudson, Columbia County, New York on November 28th, 1890. By this time, her mother was also deceased (died in Manhattan, New York, New York). Her older siblings were Leonard Freeland Bogardus, Mary Bogardus and Emma Bogardus.

Grace and Major Charles had two children, often referred to as "the redheads," Marion Freeland Stott (1891-1927) and Catherine Oakley Stott (b. 1895).
