Jean C. Birch Age 72, of Middletown, DE, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 24, 2006, at home surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Little Creek, DE, Jean lived most of her life in Middletown, attending Middletown High School and later working for the telephone company. After being a homemaker for many years, Jean began work at the Middletown Odessa Townsend (MOT) Senior Center as an Out-Reach worker and later went on to become the Director of the MOT Senior Center and President of the Middletown Historical Society.

She is predeceased by her husband, James T. Birch, Jr.; and survived by her children, Chris Birch and wife, Linda, Cindy Shields and fiancé, Pat DeSmet, Steve Birch and fiancé, Virginia Cole, and Greg Birch and wife, Julie; 8 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren; her brothers, Ralph Carty, Jr. and wife, Mary Edna, Harold Carty and wife, Crin, and Richard Carty; sisters, Margaret Ciunci and husband, Robert, and Mary Virginia Volka and husband, George; and a life-long friend, Ruby May Stanley.

A funeral service will be held 10 am, on Monday, October 30, 2006, from the Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad Street, Middletown, DE, where family and friends may call Sunday, October 29, from 3-5 pm. Interment will be at Delaware Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE.
