Harold G. “Bud” Carty, 89, of Bear, DE, passed away peacefully after a long illness at home on August 14, 2019.

Born in Townsend, DE on June 29, 1930, Bud was the son of the late Ralph B. Carty, Sr. and Mildred G. Carty. He was a life-long Delaware resident. After attending school in Middletown, DE, he served in the U. S. Army National Guard from 1948 until 1954. He worked as a surveyor for Delaware Dept. of Transportation for 37 years, from 1954 until retiring in 1991.

A devoted family man, Bud especially loved family gatherings and crab feasts. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, working in his yard, garden, and home. He was a faithful Phillies and NASCAR fan. He also enjoyed traveling and sight-seeing all across the country and accomplished his goal of visiting 48 of the 50 states.

Bud was a member of Kingswood United Methodist Church, Newark, where he served as an usher and enjoyed the fellowship of his church family.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Ralph B. Carty, Jr., and Richard S. Carty; sisters, Jean C. Birch and Mary Virginia Volka.

Bud is survived by his wife of 50 years, Corinthia Carty; children, Carol O'Hara (Mike), Linda Brittingham (Barry), Joan Hall (Floyd), Donna Hitch (John), Brian Schaffer (Barbara), and Kathy Schaffer; sister Marjorie C. Ciunci; sisters-in-law Mary Edna Carty and Jeannie Woodie; eight grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to a memorial service at Kingswood United Methodist Church, 300 Marrows Rd., Newark, DE 19713 on August 24th at 11 am. A visitation will be held from 10-11 am. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kingswood UMC (address above), or Heartland Hospice Memorial Fund, 750 Prides Crossing, Suite 110, Newark, DE 19713, Heartlandhospicefund.org.
