Dixie Belle Butler Carter, age 75, of Tompkinsville, passed away Sunday, June 19, 2011 at The Monroe County Medical Center in Tompkinsville.
She was born March 30, 1936 in Monroe County, KY to the late John T. Butler and Florence Havana Bowman Butler. She was a retired secretary for the Monroe County School system where she had worked for 22 years. She was a member of the Rockbridge Missionary Baptist Church where she served as secretary and treasurer for many years. She was united in marriage to Samuel Leslie Carter on September 5, 1954 in Monroe County, KY.
She is survived by her husband Leslie Carter of Tompkinsville, four daughters and son-in-laws: Dr. Brenda and Dr. Gary Walden of Bowling Green, KY, Linda and Jim Cooper of Bowling Green, KY, Loretta and Clifford Stephens of Tompkinsville, KY, Leslie Kay and Brett Miles of Murray, KY, three brothers: Jackie Ned Butler of Jacksonville, FL, James Ted Butler of Trafalgar, IN, Issac Ed Butler of Cave City, KY, one sister: Nancy Turner of Franklin, IN, 10 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by three brothers: John Tom, George Eagle and Joe Fred Butler, Sr., and two sisters: Alice Odelle (Butler) Francis and Trixie Nell (Butler) LaMotte.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Strode Funeral Home in Tompkinsville with burial to follow in the Skaggs Creek Cemetery.
