Dr Gilbert L. Hyroop, 80, 104 W. Wilshire, died Wednesday at Baptist Medical Center. He was a longtime Oklahoma City physician. Services will be Friday, Apr 17, 10 am at Hahn-Cook, Street & Draper Chapel with interment in Rose Hill Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Muriel, of the home; 2 sons, Gilbert Hyroop Jr and Craig Hyroop, both of OKC; a sister, Ruth Axelton of Manhattan, KS; and a brother (half-brother), Charles Hyroop of OKC; 5 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.

Dr Gilbert Louis Hyroop, Oklahoma City physician and plastic surgeon, died Wednesday at his home, 104 W. Wilshire. He was 80. Services for Hyroop will be 10 am Friday at the Hahn-Cook, Street & Draper Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Hyroop received his medical degree from the University of Oklahoma and interned at the City Hospital of St Louis, MO. His residency was served at St Francis Memorial Hospital in San Francisco where he received his initial plastic surgery training. He established his Oklahoma City practice in 1932.

Entering the Army Medical Corps in 1942, he served as chief of plastic surgery at Torney General Hospital in Palm Springs, CA, the Criel General Hospital in Cleveland, and at Percy Jones Hospital in Battlecreek, MI.

Dr Hyroop was a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and of the International College of Surgeons, and a Diplomat of the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He was also co-founder of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand.

Dr Hyroop also founded a chain of big and tall men's shops which bear his names, Hyroop's, The Big Tall Place. The chain has stores in Atlanta, Houston, Dallas, Tulsa and Oklahoma City.
