Emma was born in Naperville, DuPage County, Illinois. Her parents were Leonard Lucky Kimball and Minerva Melvina Chatfield.

On 22 October 1855, she wed Charles Henry Madren Curry (b. 4 Nov. 1833 Redruth, Cornwall, England; d. 25 August 1896 San Francisco), a jeweler and later a prominent California civil servant, in Mineral Point, Iowa Co., Wisconsin. It seems that the Currys became a politically active family- her first son and grandson were both US Representatives for California.

Emma received the homestead her father Leonard settled in 1850 in the Salt Point township for $1. However, records do not indicate that she ever lived there, and none of her children were born there. A structure on the property retains the Curry name in the local vernacular: "The Curry Barn."

Emma passed in Sacramento, living at 1515 I Street, aged 74 years, 10 months and 23 days. She was laid to rest beside her father in Salt Point township.

Emma and her husband had eight children:

1. Charles Forrest Curry 1858-1930
2. Mary E. Curry 1860 -
3. Forrest Minor Curry 1860 -
4. John J. Curry 1862 -
5. William H. Curry 1864 -
6. Leonard Minor Curry 1867 -
7. Anna Minnie Curry Peterson 1872 - 1948
8. Minerva R. Galvin 1876 -
