Wanda Rowell, a Valley Center resident, died July 5, 1988 at a local hospital from complications due to cancer. She was 61 years old. Born May 6, 1927, in Wyandotte, Michigan, she lived in San Diego County for 35 years. She was waitress for 5 years in Lemon Grove. Growing she lived in Michigan, North Dakota, Colorado, Wyoming and Idaho. Her education was in Ft. Collins, Colorado. She went to Caldwell, Idaho with her family in May, 1942. She married her husband Kenneth in Oregon and lived there a short time, before moving to California. She survived by her husband Kenneth; daughter, Cheryl Lynn Van Atta of Santee; mother, Bertha Thorson of Caldwell, Idaho; sister Grace Jones of Meridian, Idaho; two nieces and two nephews of Idaho; grandchildren Kimberly Van Atta, Curtis Van Atta Jr. and Timothy Van Atta. She is predeceased by a sister Maxine Berg, two brothers Ben and Ted, and her father Helmer Thorson. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the McLeod Mortuary Escondido Chapel. A private burial will be at Valley Center Cemetery. McLeod Mortuary Escondido Chapel is handling arrangements.
