Funeral services were held Thursday for WILLIAM LEWIS HAVENS, who died at his home near Singer, Wednesday, at the advanced age of 94 years and 2 months. Deceased came to Louisiana in 1878, settling in the community known as Ten Mile, later moving to Dry Creek, and still later to Singer where he was living at the time of his death.
He was born in Jackson County,(Vancleave, Miss., and was a Confederate veteran. Before leaving Mississippi for Ten Mile, he was married to Miss Mary L. Ladner. To this union were born eight children seven of whom are living. His wife died early in life and several years later he was married to Miss Sarah Coleman of Longville.
He was a member of the Congregational Methodist church at Singer. Rev. W.W. Knapp of Leesville officiated at the funeral, which took place in the family cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Sarah Coleman Havens and the following sons and daughters: Art S., of Gulfport, Miss.; J.R. and C. L.; Mrs. J.P. Reese of Singer; Mrs. Etta Rumsey, Singer; Mrs. Cora Foster, Starks; Elija Havens of Newton, Texas; also a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a brother of the late John Havens of DeRidder.
