Henry Cooper Havens, oldest of twelve children of John & Sabra Ann Fletcher Havens, married three (3) times, fathered 20 children with those three wives.

He was a prominent citizen and patriarch of Vancleave. Involved in commercial activity, member of the Board of Supervisors, Justice of the Peace, organizer and first Worshipful Master of Ezell Lodge No 426 F&AM in Vancleave in Feb 1895, He was an organizer and officer for the McLeod Lodge No 424 F&AM in Ocean Springs in Feb 1894, and a sheep farmer.

His youngest son Bob Havens continued with sheep farming on H.C.'s land holdings on Gautier-Vancleave Rd until his death.

HCH owned large tracts of land in Vancleave along Jim Ramsay and Seaman Road, Gautier area and Vestry. Around 1900 his property totaled more than 1,400 acres.

In August 1880 he donated 5 acres to the Methodist Episcopal Church for the Vancleave Cemetery # 1. [Deed Book 20 page 165-166] His first wife Josephine Bowen was the first burial (1879)in this cemetery. It was also a 'school' site.

HCH died in Gautier after suffering a stroke. He was 81 years old.

Pascagoula, February 9.

Judge Henry C Havens, aged 81 years, one of the best and most widely known residents of Jackson county, died from a stroke of appoplexy at 6 o'clock Wednesday night at Gautier, Miss across the river from this city.

JUDGE HENRY C. HAVENS

Judge Henry C Havens, one of the oldest residents of Jackson County and a Confederate Veteran, died at his home Thursday night.

Mr. Havens lived a few miles north of this place.

The funeral occurred from his late home, and was largely attended.

He was the father of William C Havens Circuit clerk of Jackson County.
