HAVENS
Albert G.B. Havens was born near Vancleave, Jackson county, Miss., May 5, 1851. There he grew to manhood and on April the 14th 1870 was happily married to Mary Ellen Smith. To this union was born the following children; Mrs. Ida L. Melder, L.M. Havens, Mrs. Georgiana Welch, Ernest F. Havens, Simon A. Havens, Mrs. Villulia Germany, Mrs. Sabra E. Bailey, John A. Havens, Joseph J. Havens and Miss Mary J. Havens, all of whom are living in this section of Rapides parish.
Last spring Mr. and Mrs. Havens celebrated their golden marriage anniversary and had all the children, grandchildren and a few great grandchildren together. It was a happy gathering, though then there was anxiety for Mr. Havens, as he was afflicted with an incurable Malady which gradually grew worse and ended his life October 19, 1920 at 4:45 a.m.
Mr. Havens joined the Methodist Church in youth and lived an exemplary life thereafter. He loved his Bible and kept up the family devotions the greater part of his married life.
He held offices in the church for a number of years and was faithful to his trust and diligent in service. Mr. Havens was fondly devoted to his family. Mrs. Havens in speaking of his life said; he was always patient and kind, which is a good eulogy.
He was also interested in the welfare of the community. He believed in law and order; good schools and churches and other like things that would contribute to the educational and moral uplift of the people. A good church man, husband, father and citizen has gone from us. Our loss is his gain. He is at home, free from all suffering and sin, awaiting his loved ones on this shore. May the loving Heavenly Father comfort the hearts of all the bereaved ones.
