Mrs. Lillie Stites, 94, died at 1:30pm Tuesday, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Audrey Neal, 703 Susan Esther St., Benton, following an illness of the past several months.
Widow of the late T. J. Stites who preceded her in death in 1944, she was a county resident the past 60 years. She was a member of the Knob Prairie Baptist Church. Her parents were the late William R. and Elizabeth VanCleve.
Mrs. Stites is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Audrey Neal of Benton, Mrs. Bessie Williams of Akin and Mrs. Gertie Lawrence of Johnston City, two sons, Frank and William Stites, both of Waukegan, 19 grandchildren, several great and great-great grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Lawrence Lambert of McLeansboro.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm Thursday at the East Benton Baptist Church with Rev. Harvey Kimmel and Rev Frank Trotter officiating. Interment will be in the Knob Prairie Cemetery northwest of Akin. The body will lie in state at the Drake Funeral Home in Benton after 4pm today.

Lillie Jane was first married to James Burns in 1884 and they had four children; Ido Roy, Bessie, Grace and Gertrude (Gertie). James Burns died in 1896.
