Gertie Lawrence, 86, of 2500 E. St. Louis St., West Frankfort, died Thursday, Nov. 16, 1978, in Union Hospital in West Frankfort.
Mrs. Lawrence, a former resident of Johnston City, was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church in Johnston City. She was born Sept. 4, 1892, in Illinois, to James C. and Lillie Vancleve Burns. She was married to James A. Lawrence, who preceded her in death. Survivors include a stepson, Bill Lawrence of Otsego, Mich.; two brothers, Frank and William Stites, both of Phoenix, Ariz.; one sister, Audrey Smith of Benton; and six grandchildren. Two sons, two sisters, and one brother preceded her in death. Funeral services were held at Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home in Benton. Burial in Boner Cemetery in West Frankfort.
