Around 1900, Daniel and Mae moved east to Cincinnati, Ohio. The reason is not known. Daniel's brother, James, went to Cincinnati and convinced Daniel to return to Brodhead, Kentucky and help run one of the family businesses in the town. Sometime between 1901 and 1904, Daniel, Mae and their children moved to Brodhead where Daniel and Mae operated a hotel / restaurant near the L&N railway tracks in town. Brodhead was a major refueling stop for steam engine trains and passengers would eat in the restaurant as the train took on coal and water. The hotel did very good business. The family remained in Brodhead.
Mae died in 1929, a year before Daniel died. Both are buried in Piney Grove Cemetery in Brodhead.
Mae had two siblings. Minnie L. (Welden) Hite and Thomas Andrew Welden (not in FAG).
