ADRIAN---Services for Ernest W. Avery, 82, a resident of Adrian and former mayor and police chief of the city, were held at 3pm Monday at the Adrian United Methodist Church. Burial was in Poplar Springs Church Cemetery in Johnson County.
Mr. Avery died Saturday at the Emanuel County Hospital after a long illness.
A lifelong resident of Adrian, he was mayor of the city for two terms and retired as police chief after serving for 25 years. He was a member of the Adrian United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Maggie Bell Foskey Avery of Adrian; a son, Wayne Avery of Vidalia; four daughters, Mrs. Natha Lodesky of Adrian, Mrs. Lanelle Wyatt of College Park, Mrs. Ernestine Wilson of Dublin, and Mrs.
Audrey Faye Brantley of Adrian; 11 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.
