Jane was born to Richard and Mary "Polly" Walling Pennington on Feb. 28, 1848 at Daly Community, (now Grapeland) Houston Co. Texas.
Richard was the first Pennington to come to Houston Co., Texas when it was still a Republic, migrating from White County, Tenn, in 1839.
He and Polly Walling were married in White Co., Tenn. and they followed the Walling family to Texas.
Richard and Polly had two children when they arrived in Texas, Catherine and Edwin Gaines. The rest of the children were born in Texas.
Jane married Solomon Baker May 7, 1865 in Houston Co., Texas. They later moved to Collin Co., Texas.

Their children are;
1. Caleb Baker b. Sept. 24, 1866 in Houston Co., Texas
(Two prominent and interesting descendants
of Caleb's are Bo and Richard Baker of Dallas and Denton, Texas. Evangilistic crusades have taken them all over the world, Bo as Southern Baptist pastor and composer, Dick as a gifted composer, pianist, and outstanding singer.)
