Mary "Polly" Walling was born 1813 in
White Co, Tennessee to Joseph and Katie Anderson Walling.
Joseph Walling was born abt 1772, Montgomery, Va., died abt 1840. It is said that he died in Okla. while visiting his son Thomas "Tom" Walling, who had moved there and married an Indian woman. His wife, Catherine "Katie" Anderson was born abt. 1786 in Va. died abt 1845 in Houston, Grapeland, Texas. Joseph Walling and Katie Anderson married abt. 1806 in Va. Joseph and Katie Walling's grave whereabouts are unknown.
Polly was a sister to A. Elisha b. 1821, White County, Tennessee, James R. "Jim" Walling was born abt. 1808, Joseph info unknown, Thomas "Tom" info unknown except he supposedly married twice, Indian women and moved to Oklahoma, and Nancy born in 1830 per census record.
Polly married Richard "Dick" Pennington in White Co., Tennessee in 1828. They migrated to Houston County, Texas in 1839 with daughter Catherine age 4, and son Gaines age 2 after a short while in Missouri, and maybe even back to White Co. Tennessee, before coming to Texas. They settled first about 8 miles south of Crockett on the "Beeson" place. They later moved to the Daly Community and in 1847 moved into the last house they would ever have. They had 13 children, but only 7 would survive to adulthood.
Catherine-1835, E. Gaines-1 Jan. 1837, Lawson J.-20 March 1845, Jane-28 Feb. 1848, Luzanna-1850, Henry A.-22 June, 1853 and Caledonia "Callie"-1855. All children have been found except, Luzanna. No record of her burial or death.

It was said that Polly was well known for her teacakes and gingerbread or gingercakes if spices were available.

The photograph made of Polly, is probably not many years
before her death. She is wearing a white lace-edged apron.
Richard never had a photograph made of himself, it is said.
Richard died in 1891. Polly died in 1895.

The Pennington Cemetery is set up on land that belonged to Richard Pennington in a site he picked out for a family cemetery.

Gravesite Details

Located all but one child. ~Luzanna~, she died 1901 around Yokum, Texas. No record found of her grave.
