Dorothy Bertie Bennett, age 85, of Alexandria died Wednesday, July 31, 2002 at the Clark County Nursing Home in Kahoka. She was born June 4, 1917 at Alexandria, a daughter of W Benjamin "Babe" and Emma Ellen Mortimer Arnold. On March 14, 1937, she was united in marriage to Norbert W "Bunch" Bennett at Kahoka. He preceded her in death on November 4, 2001. Survivors include a daughter, Deeanna Sue Bennett of Alexandria; a grandson, Cory Losey of Alexandria; a sister, Wilma Walls of Kahoka; sister-in-law, Madeline Benham of Keokuk; also nieces, nephews, and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother in infancy; and four sisters, Vergie Campbell, Verna Gatton, Vera Ridgely, and Minnie Kirchner. Dorothy had lived her entire life in rural Alexandria and was of the Baptist faith. She has raised livestock until stricken with polio in her early 30's. From that time on she had been a homemaker and enjoyed talking on the phone with family and friends. She and Bunch loved to visit with their many friends at the Clark County Senior Center. Following his death, she resided with her daughter and grandson until this past May when she entered the Clark County Nursing Home. Funeral services were held Friday, August 2, at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with Rev Dan Deatrick officiating. Mrs Kathy Wilson was pianist and Mr Mathew Eder was soloist. Honorary pallbearers were Brad and Sharon Ridgely. Pallbearers were Kenneth Winters, Hubert Gatton, Randy Ewart, Albert Gattin, Robert Kirchner and Joe Dobson.
