Dorothy Ruth Bensel was born in Bristol, Connecticut on July 17, 1917 to the late Adolf and Emma (Yuniska) Bensel. She married Albert Heft on December 27, 1941. He preceded her in death on August 23, 1977. On September 25, 1982 she married Harold Berens. He also preceded her in death on March 28, 2006.
Dorothy was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Royston. While spending time in Florida Dorothy helped in starting a mission Lutheran Church. She was an avid reader, enjoyed puzzles and was a wonderful seamstress.
Surviving are her son, Arthur and his wife Karen Heft of Hillman; 2 daughters, Marlene Britcher of Canton; Bonnie (Mrs. Gary) Gawel of Hillman; 7 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; sister in law, Helen Heft of Austin; and 4 nieces.
Mrs. Berens was preceded in death by son-in-law William Britcher, grandson Brett Hayes and a brother Arthur Bensel.
Mrs. Berens is at the Bannan Funeral Home in Hillman where friends may call on Friday from 2-8 p.m. Visitation will continue on Saturday at St. John Lutheran Church in Royston from 12 noon until time of funeral service at 1 p.m. with Rev. Jason Manley officiating.
Interment: Wolf Creek Cemetery
