Arthur Bensel was the oldest of 2 children of Adolph Bensel and Emma Juchnitzke. He was born on October 05, 1913 while his parents were living in Hartford, Connecticut. Shortly before 1920, the Bensels moved from Connecticut to Cleveland, Ohio.
On June 06, 1936 Arthur married Virginia Aleine Jewell, and they made their home in Cleveland. He worked most of his adult life for the Railroad as a conductor. Because of his Railroad job (considered critically important for the economy), Arthur was exempt from military service during World War II. Arthur and Virginia had 3 daughters:
Carolyn
Bonnie (died at age 2 days)
Shirley
Arthur battled leukemia in the last few years of his life, and eventually succumbed to the disease on May 14, 1982 at the age of 68. His wife Virginia lived another 18 years, passing away on January 23, 2000.
