Arthur Bensel was the oldest of 2 children of Adolph Bensel and Emma Juchnitzke. He was born on October 05, 1913 while his parents were living in Hartford, Connecticut. Shortly before 1920, the Bensels moved from Connecticut to Cleveland, Ohio.

On June 06, 1936 Arthur married Virginia Aleine Jewell, and they made their home in Cleveland. He worked most of his adult life for the Railroad as a conductor.
