Mrs. Brinkley was born Feb. 12, 1906, in Walnut Cove to John H. and Ollie M. Neal.
She was a retired teacher and principal who graduated from Guilford College in 1928 and taught school in Walnut Cove before moving to Florida, where she taught and was a principal. Mrs. Brinkley influenced many young people during her teaching career, enjoyed music, playing the organ and playing bridge with her friends. She was a member of Tavares Baptist Church in Florida, where she was active and taught Sunday school as long as her health permitted. Mrs. Brinkley also worked with the Red Cross.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Holtsclaw; her second husband, Mack Brinkley; two sisters, Edna N. Forrest and Estelle N. Smith; and three brothers, Raymond Neal, Odell Neal and Alton Neal.
She is survived by two sisters and a brother-in-law, Annie N. Eastman of Winston-Salem and Ailene and Olan Hicks of King; two sisters-in-law, Martha Neal and Edith Landreth; two stepdaughters and their husbands, Maxine and Danny White and Marilyn and Jay Whitaker, all of Orlando, Fla.; four stepgrandchildren; and her nieces, nephews and cousins.
There will be a graveside service at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22, at the Neal-Tuttle Cemetery in Meadows.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Burroughs Funeral Home.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
