SGT JOHN HANBY KILLED IN ACTION

Sgt. John Hanby, 23, was killed in action in Germany on January 6th according to a telegram sent to his wife at Greenport, L. I., by the War Department this week.

Sgt. Hanby was the son of Mr. John Hanby and the late Mrs. Carrie Ringland Hanby. He was born and spent his entire life in Geneseo. He enlisted in the Army in Dec., 1940.

Sgt. Hanby left for overseas with his regiment in Nov. '44 and had been in Germany several weeks.

Besides his father and his wife, he is survived by one son, John Jr., one brother, Cpl. William, on duty in the Philippines, and a stepbrother and stepsisters.

HANBY — John Hanby, life time resident of Geneseo, died early Sunday morning, Nov. 27 in Dansville hospital.

He is survived by a son, William of Mt. Morris, 2 grand children and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted from Findlay's Funeral Home in Geneseo. Wednesday, Nov. 30 at 2 p. m. by Rev. Wm. Henry Dilts of Central Presbyterian Church. Interment was in Temple Hill.
