Elva A. (Shaw) Lee, 96, died at her home Wednesday, March 23, 2011.
She was born March 11, 1915, in Franklin, the daughter of Oliver Franklin and Effie Viola (Bragg) Shaw.
Elva married her husband of 54 years, Robert E. Lee, July 2, 1934. They were the parents of three children.
He preceded her in death Oct. 31, 1988.
She worked until the age of 89 as a care giver for special needs children, who held a special place in her heart.
Elva retired from the U.S. Army Finance Center at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indianapolis. She was an MP for the U.S. Navy during WWII in California. She also worked for Pierce Governor in Anderson.
She was a lifetime member of the Elwood VFW and Moose Lodge. An avid Euchre player, she led the games at the Birch Bayh Senior Citizen Center in Elwood for several years.

Elva is survived by one daughter, three grandchildren, a former grandson-in-law, ten great-grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a daughter, Arthetta Rosemary Lee; a son, Virgil Edward Lee, and seven siblings, Alton (Berneice) Shaw, Velma (Virgil) Dunning, Gertrude Meyor, Nellie (Lester) Alexander, Harold Shaw, Ruby (Earl) Sattler, and Loral Calvin Shaw.
Cremation was the chosen form of disposition.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 9, 2011 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, St. Rd. 28, Elwood. Ed Hamilton will officiate. Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m., prior to the services.
Graveside services will follow at Sandbank Cemetery, Tipton.
