Flossie B. Lance, 102, formerly of the Wabash and Roann areas, passed away at 5:40a.m. monday, Sept. 7, 2009 11 days short of her 103rd birthday, at her residence in Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester.
She was born Sept. 18, 1906 in Miami County to Truman Hartzler and Stella Shoemaker. She married Arvol Lance, June 30, 1930, and he preceded her in death, Aug. 24, 1942.
Flossie retired from General Tire in Wabash in 1971, where she had worked for over 20 years as well as many other jobs to support her family due to losing her husband early in life.
She graduated from Gilead High School. Flossie also wa a member of the Olive Branch Church of God for many years and she attended the Wabash First Church of God. She was involved in the Women's missionary Society of the Wabash First Church of God.
Flossie was a wonderful seamstress, a great cook and loved to travel with her family after retirement. She was a very family-oriented person and cared deeply about other people. Flossie tried hard to keep her family together. Flossie was the oldest living resident of Peabody Retirement Community.
Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Cook, Indianapolis, and Beverly Coplen and husband Dale, Akron; three sons, Don Lance and wife Sue, Warsaw, Jack Lance and wife Nancy, North Manchester, and Ivan Lance and wife Della, North Manchester; 16 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; five step grandchildren and five step great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; six sisters,
clara Hartzler, Nettie Miller, Nellie Manor, Mabelle Ramsey, Mary Polk and Mildred Thompson; and five brothers, Floyd Hartzler, Orville "Pete" Hartzler, Russell "Bob" Hartzler, Lester "Joe" Hartzler and Forest "Bud" Hartzler.
Funeral services will be at 10:30a.m. Friday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron, with Pastor Terry Canfield officiating.
Burial will be in Enterprise Cemetery, Roann.
