"OBITUARY -- (Contributed)
Died -- At the home of his son in Humbolt, Tenn., Dec. 19, 1903, Ira Finch, Aged 76 years, 11 months and 23 days.
Ira Finch was born in New York, Dec. 26, 1827, was married to Nancy Shermerhorn, May 15, 1850. From this union three sons were born, Herbert T., and B. H., who reside here in Kensett, and Sheldon L., of Humbolt, Tenn., at whose home the deceased was visitng at the time of his death.
He joined the M. E. church years ago and was a leader in the singing in church and Sunday School, and superintendent in several different schools where he lived and always took an active part in all religeous work until his age prohibited.
During the war of the Rebellion he was a member of the Home Guards in Broom Co., N. Y., and was tendered the office of Colonel but refused to accept as he would rather march with the rank and file. He was one whom all who knew him, loved and respected him, for he was always found advocating right and justice. The poor and oppressed never called on him and went away empty handed, for he would divide his last crust with the needy.
His wife preceded him to the heavenly home some four years, and since her death he has [not] been contented to remain in any one place for any length of time, and always seemed to be lost, but now he has gone to join his helpmeet who traveled the journey of life with him for about 50 years and we trust he has again found contentment and joy."

In a 2000 trip to Tennessee, we searched for burial records in the three counties near his place of death, but found nothing. However, a descendant of Sheldon Finch, Lucille Finch Graves, has reported that Ira is buried in the same cemetery as his son, Sheldon, and has no marker.
