Obit: Ernest C. Bowers, 76, of Anthon, died Sunday, February 25, 1990, in a Sioux City hospital. Funeral services were held February 28 in the United Methodist Church, Anthon, Iowa, with Rev. Joe-d DowlingSoka officiating. Burial followed in Arlington Cemetery, Moville, Iowa, under direction of the Walter Funeral home with military graveside rites conducted by McNiff Post #389, American Legion of Anthon. Mr. Bowers was born January 31, 1914, in rural Kingsley, the son of Allen and Rebecca (Edinger) Bowers. He was raised in the Kingsley area where he attended school and graduated in 1931. On July 5, 1937, he married Lottie Hannah Kisting in Elk Point, South Dakota. The couple made their home in Moville. He served in the Army during World War II. They farmed three miles west of Anthon from 1947 until 1967. He worked for the Chris Hansen Construction Co. from 1959 until 1967. They moved into Anthon in 1967 where they owned and operated Bowers' Tavern until retiring in 1975. Mrs. Bowers died November 10, 1988. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Anthon and the American Legion. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Darrell (JoAnn) Pierce and Mrs. Rick (LaDonna) Crilly, a son and his wife, Gary and Jeanice Bowers, a sister, Mrs. Laura Ralls; seven grandchildren, Steve and Dan Pierce, Kevin and Kurtis Crilly, and Anna, Janet and Linda Powers, and two great granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Janet, a sister and six brothers.
