The Kingsley News-Times, 12 April 1928: Mrs. E.A. Bowers, a long time resident of this community, passed away at the Bowers farm home last Thursday evening following an illness of short duration. Ms. Bowers has been afflicted with asthma for many years and last week contracted influenza, the complications of the two diseases which caused her death. Rebecca Frances Edinger was born in Madison Co., Iowa, September 7, 1876, and died at her home on the farm west of Kingsley Thursday, April 5, 1928, at the age of 51 years, 6 months and 28 days. She was united in marriage with Earnest Allen Bowers on August 20, 1897, and to this union there were born eight children. One son, Charles Melvin, preceded his mother in death, having passed away on the 26th day of June, 1913. The seven surviving children are: Richard Vernon of Kingsley; Mrs. Rev. M.M. Mockler of Wright, Iowa; Mrs. Harold O. Case of Alliance, Nebraska; Bernard Allen Bowers of Kingsley; and Donald, Earnest and Jesse who are with the father at home. Mrs. Bowers' mother, now 92 years of age, lives at Sioux Falls, South Dakota, but her father died more than forty years ago. One brother, Jesse Edinger, lives at Kennon, Wisconsin, and another, Isaac, at Kingsley. There are also three living sisters, Mrs. Mary E. Williams of Sioux Falls; Mrs. Bertha Bauvia of Murdo, South Dakota; and Mrs. Annie L. McCurdy of Kingsley. There are seven grandchildren and a multitude of lifelong acquaintances who with the relatives mourn the loss of a good mother, a good neighbor and a true friend. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church of which Mrs. Bowers was a member, on Easter Sunday afternoon. Rev. Hulse, her pastor, spoke from the text, "Because I live, ye shall live also." (John 14-19) Every seat in the church was occupied, indicating something of the esteem in which Mrs. Bowers was held in the community.
