Mrs. Mary Martens, 67, Dies of Heart Attack While Shoveling Snow

Thursday afternoon, Mrs. Mary Louise Martens, 67, died of a heart attack while shoveling snow at the residence, 624 W. Cherry St.

She was born July 20, 1889 in Belgium, the daughter of Ferdinand and Julia (Rooze) DeSloover, coming to the United States when a year old.

September 2, 1905, she married Amiel [sic - Emiel] Martens in Iowa [sic - Wisconsin], coming to Michigan later.

She is survived by the husband; three daughters, Mrs. Frank (Martha) Reimer of Detroit, Mrs. Allen (Irene) Kretschman of Charlotte, Mrs. Donald (Jeanette) Joseph of Potterville; a son, August Martens of Vermontville; ten grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Victor DeSloover of Waucoma, Iowa and Alphonse [sic - Alfonse] DeSloover of East Moline, Illinois; a sister, Mrs. Cantellas [sic - Cantellis] Plouvier of Chelsea, Iowa.

Rosary was recited Sunday evening at eight o'clock at the Pray Funeral Home and mass was celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at the St. Mary's Catholic church. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery.
