Connersville, Ind.--Bertha Marie Gilbert
85, formerly of 1120 Fayette St. Connersville, died Sunday, March 18, 2001 at Lincoln Centers West where she has resided since Feb. 26.

She was born February 20, 1916 to John and Maria Young Schlechtweg.

She had attended school in Dunlapsville and Connersville High School. She was a member of Park Place Church of God. Enjoyed sewing, reading romance novels, cooking and baking.

Survivors include her daughter Beverly Houseman of Connersville, three grandchildren, five great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jonas E. Gilbert, whom she married February 24, 1940, in 1974 a son Allen Gilbert; four sisters, Anna Yards, Mildred Heinbaugh, Lena Rideout and Mabel Hunter; five brothers Charles, Bill, Ed, Louis and Perry Schlechtweg.

Service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Showalter Blackwell-Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel Connersville, burial will be in Valley Grove Cemetery, in Wayne County. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials maybe made to Park Place Church of God or the Fayette County Public Library.
