Herbert Wayne Martin, 79, of Sedalia, passed away Wednesday, February 9, 2011, at Bothwell Regional Health Center. He was born on June 7, 1931, in Pettis County, a son of Everett William and Edna Christina Sophia Ficken Martin. On October 27, 1972, in Miami, OK, he was united in marriage to Judith K Priester, who survives of the home. He was a member of the Bethany Baptist Church, Sedalia. He worked as an auto mechanic at Whiteman Air Force Base for 20 years and Ollison Used Cars for 20 years. He served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean war. Herb was known for being ornery. Wood working was one of his favorite hobbies. He was a friend to all and never knew a stranger. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Besides his wife, he is survived by five daughters, Tammy Thomas (Kenny) of Green Ridge, Pam Harrison (Bob) of Sedalia, Barbara Ollison (Bob) of Smithton, Arlene Tucker (Charles) of Louise, TX, Dana Volek (Marvin) of Alvin, TX; four sons, Edward Martin of Hinesville, GA, Don Martin (Maria) of El Campo, TX, Thomas Martin (Mary) of El Campo, TX, Billy Schrader of Prairie Home; three sisters, Ruth Kerr of Sedalia, Donna Bruns of Barnett, MO, and Jan Henson of Sedalia; two brothers, Charlie Martin of Cherry Hill, NJ, and Fred Martin of Sedalia; 27 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Herbert Wayne Martin, Jr.; two sisters, Mary Elizabeth Kropp and
Sharon Kay Dial; two brothers, Larry Martin and Robert Eugene Martin
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 13, 2011, at Rea Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Craig Bowen officiating. Burial was in Crown Hill Cemetery. The family received friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 12, 2011, at the funeral chapel.The family suggests memorial contributions to Bothwell Cancer Center or Bethany Baptist Church in care of the funeral chapel. Pallbearers will be Warren Preuitt, Ross Hall, Dale Anderson, George McConnel, Brent Parker, Keith Ollison, Mike Cramer and Joe Wasson. Honorary bearers will be Allen Strange, Jr., Jim Meyer, Bob Holem, Wayne Tucker, Earl Fielder, and Ronnie Ollison.
