~*~ Hazel Durham Dixon ~*~
(July 13, 1912 ~ February 2, 2011)

"My Husband's Aunt"

Hazel Durham Dixon was born to Edna Bennett Durham, and Granville Bazzel Durham on July 13, 1912.

The family lived on a 20 acre farm northwest of Seneca, Mo. where Hazel was the youngest of 11 children. Life on the farm was a busy one with everyone working together on daily chores. All of the surviving 8 children walked 1 ½ miles across the prairie to attend the one room school. All 8 children graduated from school through the 8th grade. Some went on to high school & college.

The whole family attended the rural Bethel Baptist Church in their horsedrawn wagon where Hazel played the pump organ at times & sang in the choir.

Hazel learned lifelong skills of gardening, cooking, canning, sewing, quilting, and crocheting from her parents & older siblings. She continued her love for these hobbies until late in life.

Hazel married Clyde H. Dixon on March 25, 1944 at his parents farm near Columbus, Kansas. They moved to Carl Junction, MO where they had one son, Archie Ray Dixon of Broken Arrow, OK. He works for the headquarters of Mazzio's Corporation in Tulsa.

Hazel worked as a seamstress for the Elder Mfg. Company at Webb City & Carl Junction until their son was born. Hazel also worked as a cook for the Carl Junction school system.

She loved having family gatherings at their home in Carl Junction. She was a wonderful wife and homemaker! She represented 5 generations of her sister Laura Dixon & 2 brothers Albert & Lester Durham who preceded her in death. She also represented 6 generations of her brother Ora Durham. In addition to these 4 siblings, she was preceded in death by 2 infant brothers, and brothers Ray & Ralph Durham and sisters Jessie Miller and Ina Durham.

Hazel lived with her son Archie in Broken Arrow after Clyde passed away on June 4, 2000. Archie gave wonderful care for his mother at his home until she was hospitalized for a few days then transferred to hospice care at Forest Hills Rehab Center. She passed on to Glory on Feb. 2, 2011.

She was loved by a host of nieces & nephews as well as a host of extended family members in Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana & California.

Funeral Services will be at 11 AM Tuesday at the First Baptist Church of Carl Junction. The visitation will be an hour prior to service time at the First Baptist Church of Carl Junction.

Burial will follow at the Carl Junction Cemetery.
